BOSTON — The palpable silence across Boston on New Year’s Eve offered yet another reminder of the uncertainty the nightlife industry is facing heading into 2021.
Ace Gershfield, owner of 6one7 Events, told Boston 25 News he believes it will be at least nine more months before clubs and bars in Massachusetts have the green light to reopen.
Gershfield said it’s the staff at bars, clubs and lounges that are taking the biggest hit with many worried that the nightlife industry may be forever changed.
However, Gershfield believes life will return to the industry and that many shuttered venues will eventually reopen.
“This is usually the busiest night of the year, and the city is desolate.” said Gershfield. “It’s sad to see, but I know there’s a brighter light coming. There are some places you worry about that may not return, but I think most will.”
The group that manages Legacy Nightclub, Royale and Candibar nightclubs estimates losses of $200,000 just from New Year’s Eve alone.
