DA: Man fatally stabbed wife in Stoughton apartment while children were home

STOUGHTON, Mass. — Norfolk County District Attorney and Stoughton Police are investigating a domestic homicide that occurred late Friday night on Bennett Drive in Stoughton.

According to police, 43-year-old Telma Bras was fatally stabbed by her husband, Ilton Rodrigues, 48.

Rodrigues was found in the living room of his apartment with his wife's body after attempting to kill himself, police say.

The couple's two children – a 17-year-old daughter and 7-year-old son – were home at the time of the incident, Norfolk County DA Michael Morrissey said.

"Being in the home itself at this time during these tragic circumstances clearly has taken its toll on the children," DA Morrissey said.

The 17-year-old contacted a relative, who then called police. Responding officers broke down a pair of doors in order to enter the apartment.

Stoughton Police Chief Donna McNamara says Rodrigues has no criminal record and there is no record of prior abuse.

"We only had a minor motor vehicle infraction with [the] suspect in this case," Chief McNamara said. "No calls to that residence prior to that evening."

Rodrigues has been hospitalized with life-threatening injuries and will likely face a murder charge, Morrissey said. He is expected to survive and will be arraigned on Monday either in the hospital or a courtroom.

Investigators say the two children are under state supervision in an undisclosed location.
