NH police chief recommends charges in high school hazing incident

CHELMSFORD, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – The police chief in Moutlonboro, N.H. is recommending several Chelmsford High School football players be criminally charged for an alleged hazing incident that occurred at Camp Robindel in late August.

According to the Lowell Sun, Police Chief Leonard Wetherbee would not discuss the charges, but said he is confident Carroll County Attorney Robin Gordon will uphold his recommendations for criminal charges; however, Gordon can downgrade or upgrade any of the charges.

Chelmsford Superintendent Frank Tiano is currently in Finland on an educational trip and was not available to comment, the newspaper reports.

Chelmsford's deputy chief of police said the alleged hazing incident occurred while the football team was attending football camp in Moultonborough, N.H. in late August. According to the Moultonborough Police Department, the incident occurred on or about Aug. 23.

The camp was held at Camp Robindel on Lake Winnipesaukee from Aug. 21 to Aug. 24., camp owner Nat Greenfield told FOX 25. Greenfield also said the ages of the football players are about 15, 16, and 17.

Greenfield was notified by his property director that there was an allegation of a "hazing incident, perhaps sexual in nature" when the police department began its investigation.

School officials and authorities have remained tight-lipped throughout the investigation.
