Nationwide M&M recall issued: Some chocolate candies may contain peanut butter

(MyFoxBoston.com) – Mars, Inc is recalling its M&M™ theater 3.4 ounce box products, because boxes identified as milk chocolate could contain peanut butter.

The U.S. Department of Food Safety and Agriculture says the product box is labeled incorrectly, but the inside package is correct.

The issue was identified after a consumer notified Mars that a M&M'S™ Brand Milk Chocolate Theater Box contained a M&M'S™ Brand Peanut Butter package containing peanut butter M&M'S™.

So far, there have been no reports of illness or adverse reactions due to the mislabeling.

The boxes were shipped and distributed to customer warehouses between May 8th and July 1st in the following states: NC, TX, MN, IL, FL, KY, MS, AZ, GA, AI, CA NJ, PA, WA NY, CO, MO, MI, NH, CT, TN, MD, SC, OH, ME, VA, RI, WI, WV, IA, LA, OK, MA, NE, OK, AR, VT, ID and IN. The boxes are then redistributed nationwide for retail sale.

Consumers who believe they've bought one of the recalled items and have allergy concerns can return them to the store they were purchased at for a full refund.
