Murder victim's sister gets restraining order against stabbing suspect

The family of a mother of five murdered in New Hampshire in 2009 got a restraining order against the victim's ex-husband after he was arrested for an alleged stabbing attack.

Stacey Burns was found stabbed to death in her Wolfeboro home on Mother's Day in 2009, and her murder has gone unsolved for nine years.

Now, Burns' ex-husband, Ed Burns, was ordered by a Natick District Court judge to stay away from the family of the victim's sister, Kelly Crane, along with his own children.

The language in the restraining order was simple and to the point, as Crane let her fears known.

"I am afraid for my children's and my sister's children's safety," Crane wrote.

The order comes after news that Ed Burns had been recently arrested for allegedly stabbing a man in the back at his home near Millis Center.

Police and court records reveal he was arrested on July 18, and police described a bloody scene in the second-floor apartment.

Two witnesses allegedly heard Burns tell the victim, "I'm going to stab you."

The victim survived the incident, and Burns was charged with resisting arrest after police forced him to the ground and had trouble handcuffing him.

Burns maintains the incident in Millis was self defense.

The incident comes nine years after the stabbing death of Burns' ex-wife, and two of the victim's children were in the house at the time.

Earlier in the night, Ed Burns had dropped the other three children off at Crane's home, telling her he was going to a party in Boston.

Now, Crane and her husband have full custody of Stacey and Ed's children, leaving the father unable to see his own kids.

New Hampshire authorities have not named Ed Burns, or anyone else, a suspect in the unsolved murder case, and New Hampshire Attorney General Gordon MacDonald had no comment on the situation.
