A state trooper pulled over the vehicle for an inspection sticker violation. The driver refused to stop and the trooper pursued the truck. When the truck stopped at a CVS on Route 97 in Haverhill, the driver, a 35-year-old Quincy man, was taken into custody. Police say Sudler tried to retrieve a backpack that was in the car before fleeing on foot without it. Troopers found a firearm in that backpack.
Haverhill Public Schools held off on dismissing students due to the search.
State Police say additional information on Sudler and the incident will be released later Wednesday.
The Massachusetts Probation Services released a statement to Boston 25 News:
Elias Sudler was placed on probation at New Bedford District Court on June 24, 2016 for kidnapping and assault and battery-dangerous weapon.
