BROCKTON, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com/AP) - Authorities say a Massachusetts woman and her 9-year-old daughter have been found hanged in the basement of their home and investigators are trying to determine what happened.
Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz said the bodies of 32-year-old Ariana Rosa-Soares and her daughter, Marley Soares, were found Friday morning at their home in Brockton.
Cruz says it's too early to say whether the deaths were murders or a murder-suicide. He says police are reviewing written information found in the home. He says it doesn't appear to be a case of domestic violence, but it is being investigated as a homicide.
"They were hanging in the basement," Cruz said.
When asked if they were separate, he said, "I don't want to get too specific, but they were hanging in the same room."
Jose Rosa, Ariana's father, says his daughter was mentally ill and he tried to get help for her.
"I feel dead. I feel mad," he said.
On Friday, FOX25 discovered a Facebook post by Ariana that suggested trouble with a man in her life. Family members say the mother divorced a year ago.
Family friend Claudia Gomes said, "There was a lot of problems going on between her and her family and her and her husband. I guess that just keeping her stressed out."
Authorities say Rosa-Soares also had an 11-year-old daughter, who wasn't home when the bodies were found. She is now with family members.
The investigation remains ongoing.
