Police said that the story, which included Johnson shooting back at the person, following them and then crashing his cruiser, was "fabricated." Police officials said that he had fired shots into his own cruiser and made up the rest of the story.
Johnson was terminated. He had previously pleaded not guilty to charges related to the shootout. Police said further investigation revealed he was involved in making a bomb threat to Millis High School the same day as the alleged shootout.
On Thursday he was indicted for additional charges, including willful communication of a bomb threat to a school, misleading a criminal investigation, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling and making a false police report and willful and malicious destruction of property.
