Men lead police on high-speed chase along Mass. Pike in stolen U-Haul truck

AUBURN, Mass. — State Police have arrested a driver that they say stole a U-Haul and led officers on a high-speed chase along the Massachusetts Turnpike.

It started inside Sears at the Auburn Mall and ended more than ten miles away. Investigators say 20-year-old Paul Mock and 28-year-old Sean McKenzie ran from police after trying to use a fraudulent credit card.

"A male was trying to purchase two snowblowers with what appeared to be a stolen credit card," said the Worcester Assistant DA.

When police were called to the department store, officers say Mock and McKenzie ran out and hopped into a stolen U-Haul truck. According to court documents, Auburn's chief followed the runaway U-Haul for a couple of miles on Southbridge Street. The chase continued right onto the Mass. Pike.

Police say the truck stayed on the Pike then got off onto Route 20 in Worcester, then got back on the Pike.

At one point, court documents say the driver smashed into another car. Eventually, troopers slowed the truck down by using stop sticks on the highway.

McKenzie and Mock were in handcuffs a short time later and now face a long list of charges including assault with a dangerous weapon, failing to stop for police and receiving a stolen vehicle.

No one was injured in the incident.

The men are being held without bail for other charges out of Palmer, Greenfield, and Springfield. They will be back in Worcester court on Dec. 3.
