Mechanics fight back after armed man enters Sandwich garage

BARNSTABLE, Mass. — A Plymouth man is in jail after police say he went to an auto shop in Sandwich with a gun and threatened employees.

The incident happened around 9:15 a.m. when police said 42-year-old Craig Scott walked in wearing a hoodie.

The employees fought back though, eventually subduing Scott before police could arrive.

“We had him in the office, we were all standing over him, trying to keep him pinned down until the police come. Of course he ran in there with a gun and a bat. So, obviously going to hold the guy down so he doesn't do anything.

You never know if you’re going to get stabbed or whatever,” Mike Cavaco, one of the mechanics, said.

Scott is charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, carrying a firearm without a license and other charges.

Sandwich Police Chief Peter Wack said they don’t know what the motive was.

“We are still investigating the matter, but it appears to be random,” Wack said.

Scott was ordered held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing.
