MCI Shirley in lockdown after shots fired

SHIRLEY, Mass. — State Police said they are investigating after shots were fired outside MCI Shirley.

Corrections officers heard the shots near the Harvard Avenue side of MCI around 3:25 p.m. They said they saw saw a man fleeing on foot.

State Police were notified and reported to help corrections officers search. K-9 units and a helicopter from our Air Wing assisted in the search, which included nearby wooded areas.

Police said they are not aware of any gunshot victim or the identity or motive of the suspect. It is unknown at this time if the man was a hunter.

Police described the man fleeing as wearing dark pants. The color of his shirt was not observed.

As a result, MCI Shirley was in lockdown.
