Massachusetts shoppers stock up on groceries ahead of winter storm

BOSTON — The carts are in motion at grocery stores across Massachusetts as shoppers prepare for a potential blizzard.

Folks have been grabbing everything on their lists ahead of time with uncertainty about how long they’ll be at home.

People who have been shopping to avoid waiting until the last minute are still finding empty shelves.

Several shoppers told Boston 25 News they believe shopping habits formed during the pandemic are causing some to stock up on more than they actually need.

“I like to be safe rather than sorry, but I don’t like hoarding,” said Barry Schonwetter. “I see a lot of people who come in and grab grab grab and take everything, and I don’t like that!”

Other customers at the Stop and Shop at South Bay in Dorchester shared a similar sentiment.

“They’re stocking up so much where they’re not letting the other people grab the essentials they need because they’re so overwhelmed, and the panic button is on play mode,” said Carlos.

The items that people said were out of stock or running low at some grocery store locations on Thursday included meat, milk, eggs, and bread.
