SANDWICH, Mass. — A beautiful pod of endangered right whales were spotted off of the Cape Cod Canal Thursday morning.
The crew of Massachusetts Environmental Police’s offshore patrol boat photographed one of the whales coming up for air during the early morning hours. Officials said the crew is there to ensure vessels abide by speed and approach restrictions established to protect the whales.
Right whales have seen drastic declines in population.
