Mass. National Guard disciplines soldier for viral social media post threatening protesters

BOSTON — The Massachusetts National Guard has announced that they’ve disciplined a local soldier for making what they called, “inflammatory and divisive comments" in a social media post that has since gone viral.

The organization also issued a statement condemning that soldier’s message after a post circulated on social media about an apparent National Guardsman who allegedly posted a message on Snapchat saying, in part, “you’re all stupid and I can’t wait to shoot you tomorrow night.”

That message was apparently in reference to the protesters who have been taking to the streets across Massachusetts in the last five days to rally against the death of George Floyd. Protests have broken out nationwide since Floyd, a 46-year-old man, was killed in Minneapolis when a police officer knelt on his throat near the end of May.

In response to that soldier’s message, the Massachusetts National Guard has made him inactive and are currently investigating the post. The Massachusetts National Guard was called in Sunday night to further aid Boston Police after a day of protesting turned violent after nightfall on Boston Common.
