Man with violent history spanning decades added to MSP Most Wanted list

The Mass State Police have just added a man with a long criminal history of violence against women to its Most Wanted fugitive list.

Forty-nine-year-old Kevin Hamel is wanted for allegedly kidnapping and violently assaulting a woman in Townsend this year. His criminal history of violence against woman stretches back to 1994 and he also served time for a violent attack against a woman in Townsend back in 2011.

Hamel hasn't been seen since March, but state police are hoping to catch him as soon as possible.

Mass State Police Detective Lt. Michael Farley is heading up the hunt for Hamel, the latest addition to the state police most wanted fugitive list.

"He has a brutal history, lot of violence, in particular, a lot of violence aimed against women," said Farley.

Farley tells Boston 25 News reporter Bob Ward that Hamel disappeared after brutally attacking a woman in Townsend on March 30.

"He told her she couldn't leave, slapped her in the face a couple of times, ripped necklaces off of her, threw her against the wall, and at some point in time, got her on the floor. When he got her on the floor, he allegedly started hitting her head against the tile floor," said Farley.

The woman escaped into her car, locked the door and called police, with Hamel banging on the car, trying to get inside, before he took off.

This incident is similar to a case in February 2011 where Hamel was convicted of confining a woman inside his property, and kicking and punching her. That victim also managed to escape and Hamel went to prison.

"He has a history, starting in 1994, it's 2018. That's why we need to get him. Need to get him quick," said Farley.

Hamel has ties to central Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
