Man speeds off after hitting Lakeville Police officer with car

LAKEVILLE, Mass. — A man hit a Lakeville Police officer with his car and fled the scene, police said.

On Saturday, at around 7:30 p.m., Lakeville Police stopped a car being driven erratically from entering the Ted Williams Camp.

Officers asked the driver to stop the car and put it in park, but instead the man drove away, hitting a police officer with his car on his way out.

That led to a police chase down Route 18 before police set up stop sticks and were able to stop the car in Freetown.

Freetown Police officers assisted Lakeville in arresting Kasey Faria, 25, of New Bedford.

Faria was charged with assault and battery on a police officer, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, marked lanes violation, speeding, driving with a revoked license, operating to endanger and failure to stop for a police officer.

The injured officer was taken to Tobey Hospital in Wareham where he was treated for his injuries and released.

Faria is set to be arraigned in Wareham District Court on Monday.
