Man rescued after nearly drowning near Taylor's Point Marina

BOURNE, Mass. - Police in Bourne are investigating a near-drowning that happened on Monday afternoon near Taylor's Point Marina.

Bystanders pulled out an unresponsive man from the water and performed CPR, saving his life.

Those who were just enjoying an extremely hot beach day said the afternoon quickly turned frantic as they realized there was an emergency in the water.

"Awful, awful situation," said Alex Newhall, a beach goer.

Newhall said she was at the beach when she heard a jet skier screaming for help.

"He was going around in circles and, we’re like, ‘What the hell is going on?’ and I stood up and saw a guy’s back coming up in the water," said Newhall. "I was like, ‘That’s weird, maybe he’s floating around. Someone took this boat here and we all swam out to him. The kid that was on the jet ski actually got off and grabbed him and brought him over [to the beach]."

A woman then started chest compressions before first responders arrived and started CPR.

"It didn't look too good when he was out there," said Andrew Costa, who works at the marina across the water.

Costa told Boston 25 News that, minutes before, he had seen some people jumping into the water on the low railroad bridge that runs parallel  with route 6.

"Looked like some people were swimming, diving off, having a good time, heard a lot of laughter," said Costa.

It is still unclear if that is exactly what led up to the incident.

Paramedics rushed the victim to the hospital.

Local and State Police are currently investigating the incident.

There is no update yet on the man's condition.
