BRAINTREE, Mass. — Officials in Braintree are investigating a fire that left a man dead late Sunday night.
Few details have been released, but officials said the fire was reported on Nicholas Road just before 11 p.m.
When crews arrived at the scene they were met with heavy smoke coming from the one-story home, but they were able to extinguish the flames quickly.
“When we arrived, Braintree police were evacuating two of the family members,” Deputy Fire Chief Robert Belanger said. “Once the fire was knocked down, the subsequent search of the residence showed there was one member who did not make it out, and he proved to have fatal injuries.”
Officials told Boston 25 News' Joy Dumandan that a husband and his wife, both 70 years old, were able to escape the fire.

Their son, however, was unable to make it out and he was killed.
He was identified as Colin Gray Jr., 46.
Officials said the fire broke out in his bedroom, and likely never woke up. The official cause of the fie cannot be determined, but investigators said it was accidental. The space heater, which was originally reported as a potential cause has been ruled out.
