A millionaire is fighting for more money in a divorce settlement based on the grounds that he's a "genius" and contributed more to the marriage, therefore he and his former wife's wealth should not be cut in the standard half and half.
Randy Work is an American financier. According to the Telegraph, Work and Mandy Gray married in 1995 and separated in 2013. Last year, a judge awarded Mandy Gray half of a fortune worth more than £140 million (which equates to roughly $170 million).
Now, Work is trying to overturn the decision. His lawyers argue that Work is so exceptionally talented at his job that, according to the Telegraph, he wants his "special contribution" recognized. More specifically, he wants closer to two-thirds of the couple's shared wealth.
Work believes he is a "genius" based on how great he is at his job. A judge told Work that the word "genius" was being too loosely used and did not give Work credit for a "special contribution."
An appeals judge is reportedly set to hear the case in February.
Work has also argued that his wife, who he claims cheated on him, is only entitled to £5 million (which equates to roughly $6 million) because she violated a Texan post-nupital agreement.
