Man accused of trying to stab customer at Randolph gas station

RANDOLPH, Mass. — A Brockton man is accused of trying to stab another man with a knife before hitting him with his car, according to Randolph Police Chief William Pace.

Randolph Police were called to the AL Prime gas station on Union Street around 12:30 p.m. Thursday for a report of an assault.

Boston 25 News obtained surveillance video of the attack.

Police said Nathan Baka, 46, started yelling at the victim because he was smoking a cigarette while pumping gas. The two started arguing and the victim got into his car to leave. Baka walked up to the victim’s car and pulled out a knife. He tried to stab the victim multiple times.

“I understand he was trying to speak up about the gas situation, but it’s hypocritical to say don’t pump gas smoking, but I can pull a knife on you,” said a man named Sylvester, who didn't want to share his last name with Boston 25 News.

As the victim started to yell for help, Baka went back to his own car.

When the victim got out of his car to get help, police said Baka hit the man in the hip with his car before racing from the scene.

The victim wasn’t hurt.

Police obtained Baka’s license plate number, but couldn’t find him.

Baka turned himself in at the Randolph Police station, where officers arrested him. He’s charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon.

“When it gets hot like this, tempers flare,” said Sylvester.

Baka is expected to be arraigned Friday at Quincy District Court.
