Reported bomb threat prompts early dismissal at Fitchburg school

FITCHBURG, Mass. — A reported bomb threat at a Fitchburg school prompted an early dismissal Wednesday morning, officials say.

Fitchburg Public Schools said in a statement they received a notice of a bomb threat at Fitchburg High School and evacuated the building out of an abundance of caution.

The school is was swept by police and fire crews while all students and staff safely got out of the building, according to authorities.

Because of the ongoing investigation, school officials say the high school will have an early dismissal. Students riding the bus are being picked up first and parents can pick up their children second.

All high school games are cancelled for today, however, the school department says the middle school boys and girls soccer games versus Ayer-Shirley is still on.

Fitchburg High School has since been cleared. Students can collect their personal items until 4:30 p.m.
