Confirmed tornado sends trees toppling down in Easton, Brockton

EASTON, Mass. — A confirmed EF1 tornado tore through parts of the state Saturday night, sending trees toppling down in Easton and neighboring Brockton.

The National Weather Service has confirmed that an EF1 tornado touched down along the Foxboro/Easton town line on Saturday night, with an estimated peak wind of 105 mph. The path length and width are estimated at 400 yards and 100 yards, respectively.

“At about 8:30, we heard the rain start and the grill on our deck flew from one end of it to the next, and the next thing you know the power went out,” said Rob Citrano, who lives on Prospect Street. “The police told me that the whole town looks like this behind us. That’s what they told me.”

Citrano showed Boston 25 News crews several fallen trees in his backyard.

”I didn’t realize the tree behind me had come down until my neighbor came out with his light, and that’s when I realized not only that tree came down, but a couple trees in my yard in the back right now are laying on our fence back there,” Citrano said. “A piece of our pool fence went flying into the woods.”

Easton police told Boston 25 News about five roads had to be shut down after the storm as trees and live wires came crashing down into the streets.

“I’ve been out here directing traffic so nobody was going to come by the house here because there’s live wires in the street,” Citrano said. “It does make you nervous, and that’s why I don’t want anybody driving through here.”

Authorities said they received dozens of calls for damage, but they did not get reports of any injuries.
