Wellesley intruder snuck into homes as families slept

WELLESLEY, Mass. — Wellesley Police are putting out an alert to residents after a string of home break-ins over the weekend.

Police said five homes in the Edgewater Drive and River Glen neighborhood were burglarized late Saturday night into early Sunday morning.

According to police, the suspect got into four of those homes through unlocked doors as families were sound asleep.

All of those victims reportedly did not realize they’d been burglarized until after they woke up.

The fifth home that was broken into is a house slated for demolition.

In addition to the home break-ins, investigators believe the suspect also tried to get into other homes in the area.

“As we go into the holiday season, with all the valuables around the house, make sure you lock your doors,” said Wellesley Police Officer Michael Mankavech. “People feel safe in their homes, definitely here in Wellesley, but it doesn’t matter where you are. You can be a victim of crime anywhere.”

Police said valuables were stolen from each of the homes but did not specify exactly what items were stolen.

It’s also unclear if police have surveillance video of the person or persons they’re looking for.

Boston 25 News observed ring security cameras on a number of homes in the area.

The weekend burglary spree has also prompted other homeowners to step up security measures.

“The first thing my parents did is get the ring system,” said Andrew Walthall. “We never really lock our doors. It’s something we got to think about now.”

Wellesley Police Department Officers and Detectives are actively investigating the cases. Anyone with information is asked to contact Officer Mike Mankavech at 781-235-1212 or via email at mmankavech@wellesleyma.gov
