Teen dies after being pulled from Amesbury lake

AMESBURY, Mass. — A 16-year-old teen has passed away after being recovered from an Amesbury lake on Sunday at approximately 3:51 p.m.

The Amesbury Police told Boston 25 officials received reports that someone was in the water and drowning at Lake Gardner Beach.

The lake remained closed after the Amesbury Police and Fire Departments responded to the scene. At 4:16 p.m., the victim was pulled from the water without a pulse.

Paramedics performed CPR on the teen before transported the victim to Anna Jacques Hospital in Newburyport. At the hospital, paramedics continued working on the victim at the hospital with Emergency Room staff. They were able to establish a pulse before the teen was transported to the Boston area hospital by the Boston MedFlight.

“Amesbury’s Police and Fire teams responded quickly and worked together to locate the victim in the water,” said Acting Police Chief Craig Bailey. “There is an investigation underway, and more details will be shared with the public at a later date.”

Police confirmed to Boston 25 the teen has since passed away, but an identity has yet to be released at this time.

The incident remains under investigation at this time.
