SWANSEA, Mass. — Residents in Swansea are worried about the dying swan population.
Over the last few weeks, dead swans have been found in the Compton’s Corner area of Swansea’s Cole River.
At least half a dozen birds have been found along the shoreline and even in people’s yards. Several neighbors who enjoy watching and feeding the birds say they are heartbroken.
Residents want to know if there is something they can do to stop the birds from dying.
“If it’s an avian flu or some sort of bird flu that we can’t do anything about, that’s fine. But if it’s something else and we can do something to save the rest of these birds, they’re dying,” said resident Debra Manning.
Swansea’s animal control says all of the dead birds have been sent out for testing and are waiting for results to come back.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
