Steamship Authority resumes operations following ransomware attack

WOODS HOLE, Mass. — Steamship Authority announced Saturday at 9 a.m. that its website is now up and running for customers following a major ransomware attack that occurred Wednesday, June 2.

The ransomware attack targeted its operations, impacting its ferry services in Woods Hole, Martha’s Vineyard, and Nantucket. As a result of the attack, many customers experienced traveling delays throughout the last 10 days.

This is only two days after the Steamship Authority announced that reservations could be made in-person at its five terminal locations, but now reservations can be made or changed on the website.

The company announced that the reservation office is currently accepting reservations for travel through June 16, and the hours have been extended through Friday to assist customers. The office will be open from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. through Sunday.

There is also the waitlist to travel from July 1, 2021, which is now being processed, and the waitlist requests for travel before July 1 will be processed soon.

Officials say that all waitlist requests remain intact and that customers do not need to recreate them.
