State Police identify 17-year-old swimmer whose body was recovered off Winchester beach

WINCHESTER, Mass. — State Police on Sunday identified the 17-year-old swimmer whose body was recovered off Shannon Beach in Winchester on Saturday.

Luis Tejeda of Lynn died after he went swimming with several family members on Saturday, state police said.

Luis “and another family member were out well past the safe swimming barriers when the other swimmer with him realized he was no longer visible at the surface,” state police said in a statement.

The teen was swimming around 100 yards off shore when other swimmers noticed he had dipped below the surface, state police said.

Family members attempted to search for him while 911 was called around 7 p.m. to report a missing swimmer, state police said.

Emergency crews later recovered the teen’s body in about six feet of water close to the area where he was last seen.

The beach has no lifeguards after 6 p.m.

There is no suspicion of foul play, state police said.

The official cause of death is pending.
