State police: 5 people arrested after troopers chase stolen vehicle through Revere into Boston

REVERE, Mass. — Five people riding in a stolen vehicle were arrested after leading troopers on chase that spanned multiple highways in Revere and Boston early Wednesday morning, law enforcement officials said.

A trooper patrolling the southbound side of Route 107 in Revere shortly after midnight spotted a black 2017 Honda Accord that had been reported stolen in Taunton on Monday, according to Massachusetts State Police.

Additional troopers were called to the area as the driver of the vehicle entered Brown Circle rotary in Revere and exited onto Route 60 East toward Route 1A and East Boston, state police said.

The driver of the vehicle, who state police identified as 20-year-old Ailton Lopes, of Brockton, allegedly refused to stop on Route 60 East as troopers gave chase and continued onto Route 1A South and passed the Logan Airport ramps.

The chase ultimately came to an end near the entrance to the Ted Williams Tunnel when Lopes crashed into the back of a Subaru Outback, according to state police.

Lopes, along with 18-year-old Jaylani Cole, of Roxbury, 18-year-old Syncere Lindsay, of Brockton, 19-year-old Nia Owens, of Lynn, and a 17-year-old girl from Lynn, were all arrested as they reportedly attempted to escape the Accord from the backseat.

Lopes if facing charges including receiving a stolen motor vehicle, failure to stop for police, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, operating after license suspension, and marked lanes violation.

Cole, Lindsay, Owens, and the 17-year-old were charged with receiving a stolen motor vehicle.

All of the suspects are expected to face a judge at a later time.
