No one ever said being a morning person was easy. But these breakfast spots might help a little.
A new list from Cheapism.com named the best breakfast in each state on the cheap.
Mike and Patty’s, took home the honor of the Bay State’s best breakfast. A single 175-square-foot location in Bay Village has now expanded across Boston. Still, the breakfast joint still identifies with that first location, deeming itself “Your Tiny Sandwich Shop” in honor of Boston’s smallest eatery.
“The little sandwich shop makes crave-worthy handhelds such as the flavorful breakfast torta with chorizo, two fried eggs, cheddar, potatoes, black beans, salsa, and avocado on a sesame torta roll,” writes Cheapism
Granite State dining is far from gravely. Although Red Arrow Diner serves lunch and dinner, it’s their breakfast menu featuring “crispy maple-cured bacon and a variety of eggs Benedict choices” that lands them on Cheapism’s list. Red Arrow Diner has locations in Manchester, Concord, Londonderry and Nashua.
Bristol, Rhode Island’s Green Eggs represents the Ocean State. “This simple breakfast spot offers mouthwatering plates like stuffed French toast, hash varieties, homemade muffins, and frittas, which are black bean cakes topped with avocado, scrambled eggs, cheddar, and salsa,” writes Cheapism. “All dishes are made with fresh ingredients and served in a friendly atmosphere.”
The Palace Diner in Biddeford took home Maine’s top prize. The old-school metal box dinner is just one of two Pollard cars remaining in America. Assembled in 1927, Palace Diner underwent renovations in 2021 in an effort to make sure the old mill town doesn’t lose its top eatery.
“From within the vintage railcar diner comes the essentials: locally roasted coffee, perfect hash brown potatoes, corned beef hash with eggs and toast, buttermilk flapjacks spiked with grated lemon zest, and the Deluxe Sandwich, an amazingly cheesy breakfast sandwich with crispy bacon, egg, jalapeño, and cheddar,” says Cheapism.
Connecticut may be the Nutmeg State but its the baked goods at Bella’s Cafe in New Haven that take the cake. “The New Haven staple focuses on seasonal ingredients to create notable dishes such as French toast prepared with challah or Italian bread and grits with wild-caught Gulf jumbo shrimp and chorizo alongside scrambled eggs and a homemade buttermilk biscuit,” writes Cheapism.
The Penny Cluse Cafe bested the rest of Vermont but it seems the restaurant recently closed after 25 years of feeding Burlington.
