REVERE, Mass. — A Revere police officer was arrested over the weekend and placed on administrative leave after he allegedly crashed his car into a brick wall while driving under the influence of alcohol.
Officer Matteo Velasquez, 24, was arrested Sunday morning on charges of suspicion of operating under the influence of alcohol and operating recklessly to endanger, according to the Revere Police Department.
Police said Velasquez struck a brick retaining wall on Cushman Avenue just after 6 a.m., causing heavy damage to his vehicle.
There were no injuries reported in the crash.
Velasquez had just graduated from the Lowell Police Academy in October.
He is slated to face a judge in Chelsea District Court on Tuesday.
