Rain, snow expected in Mass. this weekend before coldest temps of winter. See the latest forecast

DEDHAM, Mass. — Flurries are possible in Massachusetts on Thursday night but all eyes are on a pair of winter storms that could bring rain and more snow to Massachusetts this weekend.

Clouds will thicken throughout the day on Thursday and temperatures will struggle to climb out of the low 30s before snow flurries move through the area.

“While we’re not expecting much in terms of accumulation, there could be a light dusting or patchy coating of snow in spots,” Boston 25 meteorologist Vicki Graf wrote in her latest weather blog.

The weekend brings more changes our way.

Saturday will be mild with temps in the mid-40s but rain showers are expected to sweep on during the afternoon and evening.

“There will be some rain to deal with across southern New England and snow for some of the higher elevations to our north,” Graf said in her Thursday morning forecast.

It looks like a second coastal storm system will develop late Sunday into early Monday, bringing the possibility of snowfall.

“This storm hasn’t formed yet, so we’re still waiting on the track of it, as well as the intensity to determine how much snow we’ll see and where,” Graf explained.

In a post on X on Thursday afternoon, Boston 25 meteorologist Tucker Antico said there’s a chance for up to half a foot of snow.

“I mentioned earlier a potential 6″ snowfall on Monday morning across the Mid-Atlantic and New England,” Tucker wrote in the post. “As the storm track comes into focus, it’s become more likely that potential is realized. Looking like a win for snow lovers!”

When the rain and snow eventually clear out, frigid winter temps will grip the region, according to Graf.

“If you think it’s been chilly so far this winter, get ready for what could be the coldest temperatures of the season,” Graf wrote in her blog.

Highs in the 20s and teens are expected Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, along with single-digit wind chills.
