Middle school lockdown lifted, suspect arrested after shots fired in Randolph

RANDOLPH, Mass. — Police responded to an active investigation near Randolph Community Middle School on High Street Tuesday morning. The Randolph Police Department confirmed that the middle school was told to go into lockdown, but that lockdown has since been lifted.

The Massachusetts State Police confirmed to Boston 25 that Randolph Police requested assistance with a perimeter in the area of Chestnut West near High St.

The Randolph Police Department confirmed during a press conference Tuesday afternoon that a 15-year-old suspect has been taken into custody, but they continue to search for several other males who fled from the area after multiple shots were reportedly fired.

The Randolph Public Schools superintendent released a statement to families and staff, saying:

“We have been informed by the Randolph Police Department that there was an incident this morning at Rosemont Square involving firearms. The Randolph Police have a suspect in custody and are conducting a search for additional possible suspects. Out of an abundance of caution, the Randolph Community Middle School is currently in a lockdown protocol. The Randolph Community Middle School is open for student and staff arrival with a strong police presence to ensure the safety of our school community. Parents and Guardians SHOULD NOT come to RCMS at this time. Updates will be provided as more information is received from the RPD. Please note, Randolph High School is open and has been put into a “shelter in place” protocol. Additionally, Elementary Schools are also open, there will be a delay in student transportation for Elementary students.”

It is still unknown at this time if there are any reported injuries from this incident.
