Police: Missing Fairhaven woman found alive on rocky jetty in New Bedford Harbor

FAIRHAVEN, Mass. — A woman who went missing after she left home Monday morning to walk her dog along a beach in Fairhaven was found alive Tuesday on a rocky jetty that extends well out into New Bedford Harbor, authorities said.

Anapaula Huggins, 43, was tracked down more than 30 hours after she was first reported missing following an extensive search that included a helicopter, K9 teams, drones, and divers, according to Massachusetts State Police.

Huggins had last been seen around 7:30 a.m. Monday when she was spotted on surveillance video walking her dog near Pope Beach on Manhattan Avenue. Her disappearance was reported to police around 11:30 a.m.

Family members told police that Huggins left her Raymond Street home with her dog, which was found around 9:30 a.m. by Fairhaven Animal Control, but there was no sign of Huggins.

State and local officials, with the assistance of the Southeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council Search and Rescue Unit, spent hours scouring the shoreline in the area of the Acushnet River just west of Sconticut Neck.

Huggins was found in New Bedford Harbor shortly before 4 p.m. Tuesday.

There was no word on if Huggins had suffered any injuries.
