PEMBROKE, Mass. — A Pepperell man is facing a slew of charges after a police officer found him passed out behind the wheel of a pick-up truck at a Pembroke gas station, according to the police report.

The officer responded to the Gulf gas station on Church Street around 10 p.m. Friday and said he found the man, later identified as 40-year-old Wesley Ayala, with his head in his lap.

The officer said when he was able to wake Ayala up, he noticed he had heavy eyelids, bloodshot eyes and his speech was slow and slurred. The officer noted a “moderate odor” of alcohol coming from the truck and that Ayala “admitted to having a few drinks earlier.”

The officer said he arrested Ayala for operating under the influence of alcohol. A breath test later determined his blood alcohol was nearly twice the legal limit, the police report states.

According to the officer, a search of Ayala’s truck turned up three 1.75 liter bottles of tequila, 20 Oxycodone pills, 32.5 Adderall pills, 83 steroid pills, several vials of liquid testosterone and two separate baggies containing ecstasy and psychedelic mushrooms.

Ayala was arraigned in Plymouth District Court Monday on charges of operating under the influence of alcohol – 2nd offense, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, possession of an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle, four counts of illegal possession of Class B drug (Oxycodone, Adderall, ecstasy), two counts of possession with intent distribute a Class B drug, a single count of illegal possession of a Class C drug (psychedelic mushrooms) and three counts of illegal possession of Class E drug (steroid, testosterone).

Ayala was also charged with operating under the influence of alcohol on July 25, 2016. That case was continued without a finding.

Ayala is due back in court on March 11 for a pre-trial hearing.
