MARSHFIELD, Mass. — Police are actively investigating a single car crash that left 1 teen dead and 2 others seriously injured on Sunday morning.
Officers responded to the area of 172 Forest Street in Marshfield at approximately 12:42 a.m. for a car that crashed into a tree.
A preliminary investigation shows the car was traveling south on Forest Street when it crossed the double yellow line and struck a tree.
Three male occupants were trapped inside the car.
17-year-old Nicholas Wanderly of Norwell was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 16-year-old operator of the car was transported to Children’s Hospital in Boston for treatment.
Another 16-year-old passenger was transported to South Shore Hospital with serious injuries.
“The Norwell community is deeply saddened by the unexpected death of Nick Wanderly, an eleventh grade student at Norwell High School who passed away on Sunday morning,” Norwell Public Schools Superintendent Matthew Keegan said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to Nick’s parents and family during this time of loss and grief.”
Norwell High School will be open today to allow members of the school community to come together. Grief counselors will also be made available.
This remains an active and ongoing investigation by the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office, Marshfield Police and Norwell Police.
