Owners of Boston Marathon dog Spencer welcome new puppy

BOSTON — The Owners of Boston Marathon dog Spencer and his niece Penny welcomed a new puppy into their family.

Meet Jimmy! Jimmy was born on March 3 and came home on Sunday, May 7.

Spencer, a golden retriever known for his inspirational support of Boston Marathon runners, died in February after a long and difficult battle with cancer.

Penny died a week after Spencer.

According to the Spencer and Penny Facebook, days after Penny died, the nonprofit Golden Opportunities for Independence offered a free puppy to Rich Powers, the owner of Spencer and Penny.

‘We could not be any more grateful for this generous heartfelt gesture,” the owners wrote.

The Powers family says they will continue Spencer and Penny’s mission with Jimmy.
