One woman dead, one injured in Attleboro double stabbing

Attleboro stabbing

ATTLEBORO, Mass. — Update: Contrary to initial reports Friday where Attleboro Police Chief Kyle Heagney told reporters that a person of interest had been identified in a double stabbing, the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office reported Saturday morning that is untrue.

In a release Saturday, the office of Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III said:

“Despite some initial media reports, there is not another victim in critical condition, nor is there a person of interest in custody at this time. As the investigation is extremely active and fluid at this time, no further information can be released.”

Original: One woman was killed and another injured in a double stabbing in Attleboro Friday afternoon.

Kimberly Duphily, 28, was pronounced dead at Sturdy Memorial Hospital after being stabbed at a home at 6 Leroy St. shortly before 4 p.m., according to a news release from Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn III’s office.

The other victim, a woman in her 20s, remained hospitalized Friday night, police said.

Attleboro Police Chief Kyle Heagney told reporters that police had identified a person of interest in the homicide, reassuring the community the crime was not random.

“Neighbors should not be concerned at this time,” Heagney said. “It’s – if you will – a contained incident. All parties knew each other.”

Heagney said one of the victims had flagged down a nearby detail officer for help. Good Samaritans tried to assist the injured women.

Officers kept Leroy Street and portions of surrounding roads closed down as they continued to investigate and interview witnesses late Friday night.

“Thoughts and prayers go out to the victim’s family,” Heagney said. “It’s a sad day for us in Attleboro.”

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
