One person dead after being struck by train in Andover

ANDOVER, Mass. — A man has died after he was struck by a train near Andover Station at the Essex Street train crossing, the MBTA Transit Police announced.

Police say that just before 4:30 PM on Friday, a man had entered the right-of-way near Andover Station on the Haverhill Line as a train was approaching.

As a result, the man was struck by the train and was pronounced dead as a result of his injuries.

“On behalf of the TPD and the entire MBTA organization, we express our most sincere condolences to the decedent’s family and friends,” Transit Police wrote. “Our thoughts and prayers are with them.”

This is the latest incident to occur at the train crossing. In October of 2025, an elderly woman barely escaped a gruesome crash with a freight train that sent her car into a utility pole. Also in 2023, a man was killed by an Amtrak train while crossing the tracks.

Authorities are investigating the incident.
