WESTWOOD, Mass. — The Fourth of July weekend is getting underway but for celebration organizers and families – there is some uncertainty with the weather. Plans are in limbo for many.
At Lambert’s Rainbow Market in Westwood, there were plenty of lists for the Fourth as people prepared for their celebrations. “Burgers and dogs,” said one boy shopping with his aunt. “I’m in charge of making a fruit salad,” the aunt said.
The lackluster June weather seems to be spilling over into July. For people planning outdoor parties – the Fourth is becoming a religious holiday. “I guess we just do a lot of praying,” a woman joked.
The final decision for fireworks is coming down to the wire for cities and towns. Canton celebrates Sunday night and officials there told us, “All town departments plan on discussing what the forecast looks like tomorrow night for Sunday. The biggest thing for our decision will be the wind and how heavy the rain will be.”
Debby Johnson is up from Pennsylvania to celebrate down the Cape. “So we will be heading to Cape Cod sitting in traffic for the entire time until we get over the bridge,” said Johnson. Regardless of what the weather ends up doing, people telling us today they are sticking to their plans to celebrate the Fourth of July.
