RANDOLPH, Mass. — A man believed to be in his mid-30s died Sunday night in Randolph after striking a tree in a single-car crash on Route 24, according to the Massachusetts State Police.

State Police responded to the scene just north of Exit 20 on the northbound side of the highway around 8:20 p.m. on Sunday. There, they removed a mattress from the highway and located a car that had gone off the road before crashing into a nearby tree.

The driver was declared dead at the scene from injuries sustained. Police are still in the process of identifying the victim, who is a male and estimated to be in his mid-30s, authorities said.

It is not currently known if the mattress found in the roadway played a role in the crash, though police continue to investigate the fatal incident.
