MILLBURY, Mass. — A Massachusetts school bus driver has been fired after dropping unattended students off at a convenience store to shop for him, according to Millbury Schools Superintendent.
During Thursday morning’s commute, a bus driver for the Shaw Elementary School stopped at the Village Knoll convenience store and asked two students to “purchase a bottle of water for him.”
The driver then left the unattended students to make another stop and returned to the Village Knoll to pick them up. Both students returned safely to the bus, according to the school.
Once the school was notified of this incident, Millbury Police assisted in the investigation which resulted in the driver of Bus 9 being fired from Millbury Public Schools, effective immediately.
“Please know that the safety of our students is our highest priority and we are taking this incident very seriously,” the school said in a letter to parents.
AA Transportation is investigating to assure that this will not happen again.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
