Massachusetts State Police Trooper off the job following citizen complaint

A Massachusetts state trooper has been suspended without pay following a citizen complaint.

A Massachusetts State Police spokesperson told Boston 25 News that Stephen Smith was first placed on restricted duty in mid-March.

Then, in early July, he was suspended without pay following an internal affairs investigation.

“The Department became aware of a citizen’s complaint, opened an internal affairs investigation, and placed the member alleged to be involved on restricted duty, and subsequently suspended him without pay. The allegations made are serious and do not reflect the training or expectations of how Troopers should patrol the roads or engage with any person they meet in the performance of their duties. When the investigation concludes, the Department will take appropriate action,” a state police spokesperson told Boston 25 News.

State police have not released any details about the incident that led to the investigation or suspension.
