Mass State Trooper injured in crash involving impaired driver

MARSHFIELD, Mass. — A violent head-on crash is under investigation in Marshfield. A state trooper in the detective unit was driving home when he was injured in a head-on collision involving an impaired driver.

The crash happened around 11:30 Tuesday night near Standish and Hillside streets in Marshfield, which is right near the water. According to the state police union’s Facebook post, the driver who hit the trooper was arrested on the scene by Marshfield police. According to the union’s post, the driver was charged with operating under the influence. He has already been released on $240 bail.

The driver who was charged was identified by Marshfield Police as Benjamin Howard Pipe, 28, of Marshfield.

As for the trooper, he was released from South Shore Hospital Wednesday afternoon. He is recovering at home.

“We are deeply grateful to the Town of Marshfield first responders who provided care to our Department member at the scene of the crash and the medical personnel at the hospital who treated him,” said state police.
