THORNTON, New Hampshire — A Massachusetts man has died and a woman was critically injured following a crash on Interstate 93 in New Hampshire on Saturday, New Hampshire State Police said.

The crash occurred at approximately 12:52 p.m. Saturday on Interstate 93 northbound in Thornton.

A preliminary investigation found that a 1996 Ford Explorer, driven by Richard Rosa, 56, of Lowell, Massachusetts, was traveling north on I-93 when it is believed that his rear tire had an issue that caused the Explorer to leave the roadway and travel into the wooded median.

Rosa was ejected from the vehicle. He was sent by ambulance to a local hospital, where he later died of his injuries.

A passenger, Marianne Rosa, 24, also of Lowell, Massachusetts, suffered life-threatening injuries, state police said. She was flown to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire.

Interstate 93 was closed and traffic was diverted for approximately 1.5 hours while the crash was investigated.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone that may have further information related to the crash is asked to call New Hampshire Trooper Derek Newcomb at 603-846-3333.
