MERRIMACK, N.H. — A man was seriously injured by an unknown vehicle after trying to render aid at the site of a crash on the Everett Turnpike Friday morning. Police are now searching for that vehicle.
At approximately 5:46 a.m., troopers responded to a pedestrian accident on the F.E. Everett Turnpike South. A preliminary investigation shows a 59-year-old man from Manchester, New Hampshire pulled over on the right side of the turnpike to assist a motor vehicle crash that was blocking the left lane. While he was walking to the scene, he was hit by an unidentified vehicle.
The victim was transported to a Boston hospital with life threatening injuries.
Officials report the unknown vehicle left the roadway and struck the victim in the grass median off the right side of the roadway.
State Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has seen a vehicle with front end damage to contact Trooper Luan Sanches at Luan.G.Sanches@dos.nh.gov or by calling (603) 227-0114.
The crash remains under investigation.
Troopers from the New Hampshire State Police Troop B Barracks, along with officers from the Merrimack Police Department and medical personnel from the Merrimack Fire Department all responded to the scene.
