Firefighters battle house fire in Revere

REVERE, Mass. — Two firefighters were taken to a local hospital for heat exhaustion after battling a raging fire at a multi-family home in Revere on Wednesday.

Thick clouds of smoke and some flames were visible from Sky 25 over a fire inside the multi-family home at 24 Kingman Ave.

Neighbors heard sirens and ran out to look.

“When I walked out up on the third floor there were flames shooting out of the window, probably about 20 feet,” said David Cutillo, who lives across the street.

His wife, Janine Cali, said at first, she was concerned the fire would spread.

“It was very scary, especially when the winds started whipping up. It was a little nerve-wracking,” she said.

And Wednesday’s warm temperatures made fighting this raging fire tough, according to Revere’s Fire Chief Chris Bright.

“The heat index is pretty high so, it’s pretty humid,” said Bright.

Three residents who were home when the fire broke out all got out safely.

And so did a dog on the first floor, thanks to Cali, who told firefighters her neighbor’s dog was inside.

“This is her baby. This is Lucy’s baby. So, thank God she is alive. That’s all I can say,” she said.

Soon after, Lucy Silva made it home from work, and when she saw her dog, Mel, she burst into tears, overcome with emotion that she was safe.

“She’s OK now. Thanks God she’s OK. This is my baby,” Silva said.

Firefighters say they believe this fire started on the third floor. The exact cause is under investigation.

Wednesday’s fire in Revere happened nearly two weeks after huge fire on May 20 destroyed 2 houses and damaged 4 others. The State Fire Marshal said that fire was caused by smoking.
