Firefighters battle large brush fire near Natick Mall

NATICK, Mass — Firefighters and police rushed to contain a large brush fire that broke out near the Natick Mall Sunday afternoon.

The fire began at 3:15 p.m. after a tree fell onto the power lines located in a wooded area near the Natick Mall, according to an Eversource spokesperson.

Although no one was injured by the fire, whipping winds added an extra element of challenge, according to the Natick Deputy Fire Chief.

Shoppers were inconvenienced due to the road closures set up as first responders worked.

Cell phone video captured roaring flames in a wooded area behind the Wegman’s at the mall.

Be advised, video contains swearing:

The fire was extinguished by 5 p.m. but the fire carved a large swath of burnt brush near the area.

Police asked shoppers and those near the mall to avoid the area.

Approximately 2600 may have experienced a brief power outage, according to Eversource.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
