Fall River man arrested, held on bail after double stabbing at Bristol County hotel

SOMERSET, Mass. — A Fall River man has been arrested and is being held on bail following a double stabbing at a hotel in Somerset, police announced.

The incident occurred on Saturday when officers were dispatched to the Riverview Inn & Suites after receiving a call from the front desk clerk stating that a woman in the lobby was suffering from a neck wound.

Once on scene, officers discovered that the woman had left the lobby and made their way to the room registered to her. There they found the injured woman with a cloth around her neck and two other males struggling with one another, with one pinned on the ground by the other.

The female victim told the officers that the man being pinned down was 42-year-old Kyle Barbosa of Fall River. According to the victim, Barbosa was in the hotel with her and her boyfriend before Barbosa began attacking the female victim, trying to cut her throat. The victim’s boyfriend pinned Barbosa to the ground.

All three were injured and were taken to the hospital for medical evaluation. Detectives interviewed all involved in the attack. According to police, the attack was unprovoked.

“The victims stated they were contacted by Barbosa earlier in the day and were asked if he could stay with them at the motel. They agreed to pick him up and soon after brought Barboza to their hotel room at the Riverview Inn and Suites. The victims stated all was normal at the motel and they decided to get ready to go shopping. While the male victim was in the bathroom, the female victim stated Barboza came up from behind her and attempted to cut her throat using a large knife. Barboza then struck her on her head with the knife before she screamed for help from her boyfriend. The boyfriend reported that he was attacked by Barbosa as he exited the bathroom to help his girlfriend. Once out of the bathroom, the male victim was cut or stabbed multiple times while he attempted to fend off and disarm his attacker. He was able to wrench the knife from Barboza’s hands but suffered additional wounds in the process. He fought back and was eventually able to force Barboza to the floor and hold him there until police arrived.”

Barbosa, at the moment, is hospitalized for his injuries and has been placed under arrest and monitored until he can be discharged from the hospital to be arraigned in court. He is being charged with: Two counts of Assault & Battery with a Dangerous Weapon Causing Serious Bodily Injury (to wit: knife) and two counts of Attempted Murder.

Barboza is currently being held on $500,000 cash bail.
