City of Lynn announces mandatory water ban

LYNN, Mass. — Officials announced a mandatory water ban throughout the city Wednesday afternoon.

The Lynn Water and Sewer Commission (LWSC) says that due to the extremely dry weather pattern, the reservoir system that serves the city’s drinking water supply has dropped below 51% of its maximum capacity. As a result, the Commission is requesting cooperation from all Lynn residents in conserving water, including businesses and restaurants.

Residents who do not comply will be issued warnings for the first offenses and impose fines or termination of service for repeated violations, according to a press release from the city.

The list below are actions requested by the Commission in order to conserve drinking water:

  • LWSC has imposed a ban on all outdoor water use.
  • LWSC has requested the Lynn Department of Public Works shut off water for sprinkler use in parks, playgrounds, flower beds, etc.
  • LWSC has requested that water on the Gannon Municipal Golf Course be shut off.
  • Fire hydrants shall only be used for fighting fires and for water quality purposes
  • Restrict restaurants to serve water only upon request.
