Black bear spotted in North Andover

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. — Officials are warning the public after a black bear was spotted in a North Andover neighborhood Friday afternoon.

North Andover Police say they received multiple reports of the bear in the area of Route 114, Sharpners Pond Road, and Berry Street.

If you do encounter the bear, wildlife officials say the best thing to do is to stand tall and make as much noise as you can. You want to make yourself look as large as possible.

Most bears will leave people alone, but police are reminding residents what to do should one cross your path:

  • DO NOT approach
  • DO NOT feed
  • DO NOT stop to take photos or videos

Residents are also asked to remove all outdoor bird feeders, secure all garbage, pet food, and livestock food and to keep dogs on leashes.

If you have a bear related emergency, please call 911.
